Grand Jury

The WSA Grand Jury belongs to the most important events in the entire WSA process. It brings together renowned multimedia experts from all parts of the world - Africa, Asia, Australia and Oceania, North and Latin America, and Europe - in the unique opportunity to learn about and judge the best contents and most innovative applications from around the world, forming a unique college of evaluation.

Following the generous invitation of governments and private sector companies, in 2003 the WSA Grand Jury was invited and hosted in Dubai, and in 2005 – in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In 2007 the Grand Jury was a guest of the Government of Croatia and met on the Croatian Island of Brijuni.

The WSA Grand Jury evaluates a broad range of off-line, on-line and mobile e-Content applications - all finalists selected in the framework of national WSA contests all over the world and proposed by the national experts to the Global WSA. This unique process allows insight in the trends and state of development of e-Contents and creativity in the world. All nominated products from each country are evaluated in a three-round judging process, and subsequently, the World's Best e-Contents and Applications (5 products in each of the WSA categories) are selected.

Review WSA Grand Jury 2003 in Dubai:
October 17 - 22, 2003
Dubai, UAE

Dubai, October 17 – 22, the high-tech city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was the epicentre of the emerging global Information Society. The World Summit Award (WSA) Grand Jury came together to evaluate the best products in multimedia and e-Content from 136 countries.

The WSA Jury selected 40 outstanding projects from over 800 entries to be honoured in a spectacular showcase event at the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, December 10th 2003.

The Jury selection exemplifies the quality of today’s multimedia market world wide and offers a comprehensive overview on best practice in e-Content and creativity. A special emphasis in the product evaluation was put on projects which show the benefits of information and communication technology for the development of communities and help to bridge the growing content gap between developed and developing countries.

Review WSA Grand Jury 2005 in Bahrain

The WSA Grand Jury Meeting, which took place from 3-10 September 2005, is definitely one of the most crucial events of the entire World Summit Award process. The act of bringing together 35 renowned experts from all over the world and making them work and live together for more than 10 days creates a special atmosphere of unique intensity and suspense. It is a great and unforgettable – and not always easy - experience for everybody who has ever been to such an event.

The 35 international experts evaluated 753 new media products from 168 countries to find the best 40 from around the world. The judging took place in the Kingdom of Bahrain and is part of the World Summit Award (WSA) and the preparation for the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), taking place this November 2005 in Tunis.

The producers and designers of the 40 products selected by the WSA Grand Jury will get onto the global stage and receive unprecedented international recognition at the WSA Gala on November 16, when most Heads of State or Governments of the UN will have their get-together with business executives and civil society to discuss the development of the Information Society.
